Everton star vows ‘I can’t see us going down’ in interview that could backfire

January 19, 2025

Everton are fighting for their Premier League lives as they battle to avoid their first relegation since 1954.

Everton’s Jake O’Brien is adamant that the Toffees have what it takes to avoid the drop from the Premier League, despite their precarious position. The Merseyside club, eager to enter their new Bramley Moore Dock stadium as a top-tier team, are striving to dodge their first relegation since 1954.

With a challenging fixture against Tottenham at Goodison Park looming and a record of only one win in their last 12 league matches, Everton’s situation looks bleak, especially with nine goalless games in that stretch. However, O’Brien remains optimistic, drawing confidence from the quality he witnesses in training sessions.

“I just can’t see us going down,” the Irish defender explained to the Mirror. “Last season we were in this kind of situation, but I think it’s more about us looking up the table and knowing we have the squad to get points.
