Real Madrid’s injured defensive mainstay could return to training by February

December 7, 2023

When Real Madrid confirmed the team’s second consecutive ACL injury in the form of Eder Militao, it was clear that the signs were ominous.

Having lost their best goalkeeper and best defender for potentially the entire season, it was not going to be simple for the manager to work around a solution.

Earlier this week, word had it that Thibaut Courtois’ recovery was going on track and that the Belgian would return to group training by April.

Light at the end of the tunnel

Now, Mundo Deportivo provides an update on Militao’s situation and the news it brings forth is exciting.

According to the Spanish outlet, the Brazilian defender already sees the light at the end of the tunnel, just over six months after his injury on Matchday 1.

He is meeting the deadlines of recovery faster than expected and even recently posted a photo of him jogging on the grasses of the club facilities.

According to the latest update, Militao could be available for Real Madrid as early as February. This comes as music to Ancelotti’s ears for he was initially rumoured to be out until the business end of the season.

His speedy recovery is a direct result of his relentless work ethic and must be commended.

A stunning start

With arguably their best defender out through injury, many expected glaring holes in Real Madrid’s defence this season.

After all, the Brazilian was the team’s mainstay in central defence, and the three others did not share the best of chemistries.

Despite the odds being against them, however, the men in white have recorded their best-ever start to a season defensively.

Fifteen games into the league season, Ancelotti’s side have conceded just nine goals in what is a historic achievement. Needless to say, the combination of David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger has delivered great dividends.
