West Ham confirm return timeline after collarbone surgery

West Ham have been dealt another injury blow with Ollie Scarles ruled out with a fractured collarbone.

Scarles had started West Ham’s last two Premier League games, seemingly earning the trust of head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 19-year-old landed heavily following a challenge in the first half of West Ham’s 2-1 defeat to Leeds last Friday and was replaced by Callum Wilson in the 25th minute.

Scarles is now set to be out until at least December after undergoing a successful surgery on the problem.

On Scarles’ injury, West Ham’s performance director Richard Collinge said: “The surgery has gone well and Ollie will now concentrate on his recovery and rehabilitation here at Rush Green, with the aim of returning to action in December.”

The full-back becomes the latest player to be sidelined through injury in what’s been a difficult start to life at West Ham for Nuno.

In the absence of Niclas Fullkrug, who underwent a scan on a thigh injury suffered before the international break, Nuno opted not to start a recognised striker against Leeds. A decision he later admitted he regretted.

Centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos also missed out against Leeds, having suffered a low-grade hamstring injury during West Ham’s 2-0 defeat to Brentford.
