Bayern Munich “pushing” for Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah, may sell a current star
Another German defender for the backline?
Bayern Munich is reportedly interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah in the summer transfer window.
Though the Bavarians have Matthijs de Ligt, Eric Dier, Dayot Upamecano, and Kim Min-jae all under contract, it seems the front office is still looking to add reinforcements to this position — regardless who the next coach is. And Tah, 28, is one of the top Bundesliga names in the market.
To do the deal, which may end up north of €40m, Bayern likely must sell first.
Bayern first want to sell a centre-back before bringing in a new one. Nevertheless, the club remains interested in Jonathan Tah. Leverkusen are determined to keep Tah, who is under contract until 2025. But if he were to leave, they would demand over €40m. In addition, Leverkusen are unwilling to strengthen a competitor next season. A possibility for Bayern to enter negotiations is to include Josip Stanišić in a potential deal
Details on the Tah pursuit come from Sky Sport journalists Florian Plettenberg and Sarah Wieczorek:
Tah has cemented his position in the German men’s national team ahead of EURO 2024. Now he could be the subject of a tug-of-war between Germany’s top two clubs at the moment.
