18-year-old Barcelona target on the verge of being swooped away by Belgian side

July 25, 2023

Similar to a previous occasion that saw FC Barcelona left stranded without the services of a particular youngster who they had been following for quite some time, the Catalans are now potentially on the verge of experiencing a similar setback.

The previous case in question is none other than that of Turkish prodigy Arda Guler, who would ultimately end up signing for Spanish arch-rivals Real Madrid, courtesy of their improved economic condition and the financial terms they provided to the player and his representatives, as well as former club Fenerbahce.

Now, the player being highlighted is one from the Chelsea academy and is English by nationality. An academy player for the Blues, he is an 18-year-old striker who goes by the name of Tudor Mendel-Idowu and has been gaining much-deserved traction for his exploits in the Chelsea youth sides.

However, as is being reported by Spanish journalist Toni Juanmarti and also has been speculated since some time now, Belgian club R.S.C. Anderlecht are now closing in on potentially hijacking a deal that looked set to be all Barca’s as the Englishman will now be undergoing a medical with the Belgian side.

A heavy hit to take, especially given that FC Barcelona were not too far off from completing an agreement with the player. However, the offer put forth by Anderlecht was understandably much more convincing, given that they reportedly offered a higher financial package as well as the opportunity to be included within the dynamics of the first team, something FC Barcelona did not consider for the 18-year-old.

It remains to be seen now if the player simply joins the Belgian side as is looking probable, or if there may be another twist in the tale that sees him join the Catalan giants of Barcelona.
