Xavi keeping a close eye on the progress of 19-year-old Barcelona youngster at loan club

Alex Valle was one of the novelties in the Barcelona squad that travelled to the United States of America for their pre-season camp during the summer.

The 19-year-old left-back was taken on the trip as cover for Alejandro Balde who had been dealing with some fitness issues at the time.

Upon returning from the trip, the La Masia talent continued to train with the first team before being loaned out to La Liga 2 side Levante.

Xavi watching Valle closely

Now, Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is keeping a close watch on Alex Valle and his progress at Levante in Spain’s second division.

Since joining Levante, the 19-year-old left-back has started nine league games, accumulating close to 800 minutes on the pitch, and has produced strong displays.

Valle’s performances have impressed Levante manager Javi Calleja and assistant manager Quique Alvarez, a former Barça footballer.

And, Xavi, too, is aware of how things are going for the young left-back at his loan club in La Liga 2.

Alex Valle could get a first-team spot next season

Alex Valle will be back at Barcelona at the end of the season as Levante have no purchase option included as part of his loan deal.

The 19-year-old, whose contract with the Catalan giants runs until 2025, could earn himself a first-team spot under Xavi next season if he continues to progress like this.

Alejandro Balde is the undisputed starter at left-back for the La Liga champions, but a new backup option could be needed for next season.

Marcos Alonso’s contract with the Blaugrana expires at the end of the current campaign and reports have suggested that the club are already looking into the market for a new left-back.

But if Valle keeps improving at the same rate, Barcelona might not have to look outside to replace Alonso.
