Worrying Europa League interest emerges for significant Leeds United investment

June 30, 2023

Leeds United forward Georginio Rutter is not only a target for his former club Hoffenheim, but Freiburg have also joined the race to sign him.

The Whites are pushing for a strong start to the month of July with work going on in the background at Elland Road, eagerly waiting for the green light from the EFL.

However, the story of the summer window thus far has been about which players we might see leave the club in the coming weeks and months.

Georginio Rutter to return to Germany?
Reports earlier in June linked striker Georginio Rutter with a move away from Leeds, as interest from former club Hoffenheim emerged.

However, the Bundesliga outfit are set to be tested in this transfer pursuit, with Bild claiming that Freiburg are keen on signing him too.

It comes as Freiburg aim to build on their stunning 22/23 campaign where they finished 5th in the Bundesliga, thus securing a Europa League spot.

Will he leave?
The Frenchman only joined Leeds back in January for a club-record £36million from Hoffenheim, struggling to make any sort of impact on the side as it became clear under both Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce that he was not deemed ready for the Premier League.

He ended the campaign with one assist to his name, coming on the final game of the season where he put in a spirited cameo against Tottenham, teeing up Jack Harrison.

Those previous reports suggested that Rutter’s former club would be looking at signing him on loan from Leeds this summer.

Will Leeds get promoted in 2023/24?
Rutter simply cannot leave this summer, because he could be vital to our promotion push in the Championship next season.

If he does leave, it is just a testament to the shocking work done by Victor Orta during his time at Leeds, splashing an eye-watering amount on someone who is not going to be playing for us.

Rutter playing off the right wing and cutting in would be a sight to behold in the Championship, and we need to make that happen.
