Wilfried Zaha set for Premier League return in cut-price transfer a year on from leaving

June 30, 2024

Wilfried Zaha has only been at Galatasaray for a season but the Turkish club are ready to let him return to the Premier League as they struggle to afford his hefty wages

Wilfried Zaha could be returning to the Premier League after just a year away with Galatasaray ready to offload him.

The Turkish outfit landed the former Crystal Palace winger last summer, but can no longer afford his £300,000-a-week wages and are happy to let him go in a cut-price deal. Figures at the club have told the Eagles and other English sides that the winger is on the market.

Galatasaray are prepared to let Zaha leave for a ‘nominal fee’ despite him performing well in their impressive title-winning campaign. The Ivorian scored nine times and also performed in the Champions League, but as a top earner the club need to get him off their books.

Zaha will have to accept a significant drop in salary if he does want to secure a transfer back to the English top flight. One option could be Galatasaray paying him off, which would allow him to depart for free.

Palace are among those keen – as are West Ham and Wolves – and a free transfer would make him more appealing, but Galatasaray would have to take the financial hit.

The level of the Eagles’ interest remains to be seen, especially with new manager Oliver Glasner at the helm. Bayern Munich-bound Michael Olise is on his way out of Selhurst Park and and England winger Eberechi Eze, who is currently at the Euros, is interesting Manchester United and Arsenal.

Zaha would potentially boost morale among the supporters if he returned to south London and has shown himself to be a top performer in the Premier League previously. The player has rebuilt his career after moving to Manchester at a young age, with his development stalling.
