What Manchester United Must Do to Sign Players Like Mbappé, Ex-Player Revealst

October 23, 2023

Kylian Mbappé will become a free agent after the 2023-24 season. If Paris Saint-Germain doesn’t get the 24-year-old to sign a contract extension by June 2024, the Frenchman will leave, with the capital club receiving zero compensation.

Real Madrid remains in the mix for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner. Meanwhile, Premier League clubs such as Chelsea and Liverpool are connected to the winger. However, one name that has yet to surface much in this saga is Manchester United.

The Red Devils have previously secured some of the top talent in European football. Nonetheless, one expert believes the club’s recent struggle impacts their lure to land elite talent such as Mbappé.

“I think Man United has always had the pulling power to attract players like Mbappé, but the success on the pitch in recent years hasn’t been able to back that up, and that’s why United are struggling to attract the best players in the world,” Dwight Yorke, who played for United between 1998 and 2002, said (h/t The Mirror).

“I learned from Sir Alex that in order to attract the best players, you need to dominate domestically – something that’s happening across the city. Manchester City have been able to attract the world’s best players due to their success.”

Manchester City has surpassed its crosstown rivals. Under manager Pep Guardiola, they have become an attractive destination for elite talent.

Erling Haaland is likely to battle Mbappé for the title of best player in the world. Furthermore, he will do so by playing for City.

There are some changes in ownership at Manchester United. One of the tasks that Sir Jim Ratcliffe faces as he takes over 25 percent of the Premier League club.
