West Ham United transfer news as Eintracht Frankfurt ready bid to sign Thilo Kehrer in January
Eintracht Frankfurt are readying a push to sign West Ham United defender Thilo Kehrer in the January window, according to Sport Bild.
The German news outlet (7 December) shared that the Bundesliga outfit are already working on their plans for the upcoming window and have identified Kehrer as one of their key defensive targets.
Kehrer’s contract in East London runs until 2026, with the Irons holding the option to extend the deal by another two years, allowing them to ask for a considerable fee above the £10million they spent to sign him.
Sport Bild share that the former Schalke 04 & Paris Saint-German centre-back was a genuine target for Eintracht Frankfurt back in 2021 but the Germans missed out before his move to East London a year later.
Exit could free up funds
There was plenty of excitement when Kehrer completed £10m at West Ham, as there often is when a player signs from a club as big as PSG.
However, for a variety of reasons, the transfer simply has not worked out for either party and it won’t be out of the realm of possibility for him to leave in January.
Kehrer has only made nine competitive appearances for West Ham United so far this season and it is clear Moyes may not see him as part of his long-term plans, especially after the signing of Konstantinos Mavropanos.
There is plenty of quality in the Irons’ backline already and it is clear that Moyes prefers the likes of Mavropanos, Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd to the German, while Vladimir Coufal has been an ever-present this season at right back.
With the Hammers needing funds from elsewhere to strengthen in more pressing areas of the pitch, Kehrer’s sale would make perfect sense.
Given he still has three years running on his deal, West Ham United can command a sizeable fee should Frankfurth firm up their interest in the coming weeks.
