‘We could have avoided this situation’ – Barcelona president Joan Laporta addresses Dani Olmo saga

January 12, 2025

Another update

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has spoken about the Dani Olmo and Pau Victor registration saga ahead of the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid.

Olmo and Victor missed the win over Athletic Club but are available to feature in the Clasico after Barca were granted temporary permission to register the duo.

Laporta feels the whole saga could have been avoided.

“This Super Cup has been surrounded by a controversy, which is the registration of some Barça players, which, fortunately, has already been resolved and they will be available for our coach to play tomorrow,” he told reporters.

“We could have avoided this situation if the regulations had been applied correctly, in our opinion. But the fact is that it has now been resolved and they will be able to play in the final.”

The Barcelona president has also been in the spotlight for his behaviour in the stands at the last match and perhaps tried to explain that away with his other comments.

“Football is emotion. You can laugh, you can cry, you can be happy, you can be angry, you can be in a difficult situation, but the important thing is the emotions we experience in life and in football. But football is pure feeling and that is why it always wins,” he added.

Laporta is due to speak next week at a press conference when it’s thought the will address the Olmo saga in more detail.
