Warren Zaire-Emery Reacts to PSG’s Champions League Knockout Stage Entry

December 14, 2023

Warren Zaire-Emery was the hero in Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night at Signal Iduna Park. The 17-year-old leveled the match after it seemed PSG would be heading to the UEFA Europa League.

After Newcastle United scored first against AC Milan in the other match of the group, the pressure was on PSG to score. However, the situation got worse as Borussia Dortmund opened the scoring.

Nonetheless, Zaire-Emery would step up in a significant moment as he scored the game-tying goal. Even more luck came PSG’s way after Christian Pulisic scored the tying goal against Newcastle United.

Eventually, AC Milan would win 2-1, and with this outcome, the Ligue 1 side would punch their ticket to the UEFA Champions League knockout stage. The midfielder spoke postgame about advancing past the group stage.

“We are happy, but we could have done better and finished in first place,” Zaire-Emery told CANAL+ (h/t Paris Fans). “That was the goal. But we are happy to finish second place and to be qualified. We had a good match, that’s how football is, sometimes the balls don’t want to go in. We had plenty of opportunities. There are only positives for the future.”

Furthermore, Zaire-Emery touched on the goal-scoring issues that have plagued PSG in their last two matches.

“Of course, we have to score as many goals as possible, then we have the chances; that’s the most important thing,” the Frenchman added. “Then we have to sort this out. We will do our best in the Champions League and in Ligue 1 too.”
