Two players emerge as favourites to inherit Real Madrid’s number 10 shirt – report

Real Madrid’s famous number 10 shirt is currently up for grabs after Luka Modric’s departure.

However, according to MARCA, the two leading candidates to take over this iconic jersey are Kylian Mbappe and Arda Guler.

Mbappe already wears the number 10 for France and is one of the biggest stars in world football. However, since joining Real Madrid, he has chosen to wear the number 9.

Despite his status, he has not demanded the switch to number 10, perhaps out of respect for the club’s traditions or to avoid any unnecessary attention early in his Madrid career.

Guler is also in the running, and his case is more symbolic. The young Turkish midfielder has impressed during his time at Madrid, particularly under Xabi Alonso during his development period.

In a meaningful gesture, Modric personally gifted Guler his number 10 shirt during their final moments together, a sign of passing the torch. While Guler might not yet have the global profile of Mbappe, he has the talent and promise to grow into the role.
