Truth behind Alexander Isak and Newcastle United’s away kit launch as Adidas speak out

Newcastle United have unveiled their new green and white away kit for the 2025/26 campaign
Newcastle United have released their away kit for the 2025/26 campaign, with Adidas explaining the ‘famous Tyne Bridge’ was the inspiration for the green and white number.
The second strip is predominantly dark green, with a white trim around the collar and sleeves, as well as a white club crest on the chest. Both the shorts and socks are also green, with magpies stitched into the shins, above an Adidas badge.
The kit colour will naturally prompt accusations of being a carbon copy of the Saudi Arabia national team’s jersey, also made by Adidas, given the resemblance between the manufacturer’s two offerings.
Amnesty International UK’s head of campaigns, speaking to the Guardian in 2022 when Newcastle were reportedly eyeing up a similar green and white Castore offering, said: “If it is true that Newcastle United is changing its away kit to match Saudi Arabia’s national colours, it exposes the power of the Saudi dollar and the kingdom’s determination to sportswash its brutal, blood-soaked human rights record.”

Speaking out after the launch on Tuesday, kit manufacturers Adidas said: “While Newcastle United and their fans will wear this kit on the road, we wanted to make sure that a part of the city was travelling with them.
“We took the famous Tyne Bridge arch as inspiration and created the bold pattern to represent the iconic structure across the new shirt.”
