Transfer boost for Aston Villa as club plan ‘big sale’ of Emery requested player – ‘Ready to fight’ for signing

April 20, 2023

Aston Villa showed firm interest in Matteo Guendouzi and Unai Emery even held talks with the Marseille player for the transfer in the winter market.

A deal never took shape in January and the 24-year-old has struggled to impress regularly for the Ligue 1 side in the last few months.

L’Equipe state Aston Villa would return for the midfielder and they mention this in a report that explains Marseille’s plans for the next window.

It’s explained the France international is set for an ‘imminent exit’ and is presumed to be the club’s ‘big sale’ after this season.

Guendouzi’s recent mixed performances hasn’t put off his suitors in the Premier League, where the Villans are ‘ready to fight’ with West Ham United to secure his services.
Emery knows the Frenchman very well from their time at Arsenal as it was the manager who signed him for the Gunners from FC Lorient in 2018.

After a failed attempt in January, the report states Aston Villa will make another attempt to reunite Emery and Guendouzi at Villa Park.

Emery already holding talks with the midfielder in January and the pair’s past ties may give Aston Villa an advantage in the race to sign him.

Marseille were hoping to collect €40m from Guendouzi’s sale in the summer. Last month, journalist Jonatan MacHardy stated his value has gone down and this would come as a boost for Aston Villa in their transfer pursuit.
