TOTTENHAM TRANSFER NEWS: SPURS ASKED CHELSEA FOR ZIYECH LOAN IN JANUARY WINDOW

February 3, 2023

The Athletic claim Tottenham did make an enquiry in the first fortnight of the January window to sign Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea on loan – but the Blues rejected the request, as they looked to sell the Moroccan on a permanent basis.

Ziyech, 29, was one of the strangest dramas on deadline day. With Chelsea bringing in the likes of Noni Madueke and Mykhaylo Mudryk, Ziyech has fallen down the pecking order. That is, despite starring in Qatar at the World Cup.

The ex-Ajax man was linked with numerous clubs. Foot Mercato even claim that when deadline day arrived, he had bids from Everton and Newcastle for his signature. But Ziyech had chosen to join PSG on loan until the summer.

However, with Ziyech in Paris on deadline day and moments away from joining the French champions – a move did not go through. Reports claim Chelsea fail to get their paperwork in order. Ziyech, likely to be seething, has to return.

It could have been very different for £38m Ziyech. The Athletic now say Spurs made an enquiry to land him on loan earlier in the window. But at that stage, Chelsea wanted a permanent exit – and asked for Spurs man Yves Bissouma.

TOTTENHAM MADE ZIYECH LOAN ENQUIRY BUT CHELSEA REJECTED REQUEST
It is going to be a long six months. PSG even appealed his blocked transfer, which again, was rejected. He now has to return to Chelsea and sit on the bench, or even worse, in the stands. Tottenham, instead, have signed Arnaut Danjuma.

Tottenham did sign a player from Chelsea, in the form of Jude Soonsup-Bell – a young, English striker. But the thought of Ziyech in a Spurs shirt is a faint one. It might be that Spurs return for the playmaker in the summer, but time will tell.
