Tottenham offer update on summer signing after surgery to address hamstring issue

November 18, 2024

Tottenham have confirmed that Wilson Odobert underwent surgery to address the hamstring injury that has disrupted his start at the club. The 19-year-old, who joined Spurs from Burnley for £30 million in the summer, has seen his playing time limited, featuring for just 162 minutes in the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou.

Odobert briefly returned to action during the closing minutes of Tottenham’s Europa League victory over AZ Alkmaar in October, only to face another injury setback. Last month, Ange Postecoglou revealed that the winger had encountered a significant obstacle in his recovery.

Tottenham have since confirmed that the £25,000-per-week player has undergone surgery. The club’s medical team will closely monitor his progress before determining a timeline for his return.

The club has full faith on his recovery
The club’s statement outlined that the 19-year-old will remain under close observation by their medical team to determine his readiness for a return to training.

Shortly after the procedure, Odobert shared a photo from his hospital bed at the Princess Grace Hospital in Marylebone, expressing gratitude with the caption “thanks God,” as he begins his recovery journey.

Odobert’s summer arrival at Spurs came as a surprise, flying under the radar despite scouts being impressed by his standout performances for Burnley under Vincent Kompany, even amidst the team’s relegation. While Kompany set out for Munich, Odobert was scouted by the Lilywhites as they believe he’s one of the next coming up and they can provide the environment for the youngster to grow into.

While Wilson Odobert’s full potential is yet to be realised, it’s worth noting that the 19-year-old has a bright future ahead, with the club fully backing him.
