Tottenham announce Antonio Conte replacement as Spurs dugout confirmed ahead of Everton clash
Tottenham news: Antonio Conte has been dismissed of his post at Tottenham, giving the next management team just ten games to get the team over the line in the top four race
Tottenham have finally made a decision over the future of Antonio Conte as the club announced on Sunday night that the head coach has departed the club through mutual consent. It puts an end to an almost 18-month spell for the Italian that started off well but has since struggled to pick up.
Conte was first tasked with giving the north London club a chance of finishing in the top four, eventually overcoming rivals Arsenal and all the odds to do it. A whole host of signings were made during the summer, but fast forward to March and Spurs have been knocked out of all cup competitions with nothing more than a whimper.
Mixing the inconsistent results with a style of play that hadn’t quite resonated with the fanbase and serial winner Conte was under pressure. There were also concerns over his future anyway, with the head coach yet to commit to a new contract despite his current deal expiring in the summer anyway.
With the side sitting fourth, chairman Daniel Levy decided to act over the international break with just ten games of the campaign remaining. A statement from him on the club website reads: “We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Club and amazing, loyal supporters.”
The first match of the post-Conte era starts with a trip away to Everton, which will hardly be an easy game given their change in fortunes under Sean Dyche. The club has confirmed the replacement in management for the clash, putting Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason at the helm until the end of the season.
It’s a huge task for both, but they have each had their own experiences taking the lead at the club over the past few years due to varying circumstances. It remains to be seen if they will give the side the best chance of making top four, but in the background the hunt for a new boss is underway.
