Toon chief issues transfer update ahead of 11pm deadline & reacts to PSG, Dortmund, Milan draw
Speaking to TNT Sports last night, Darren Eales was not only asked for his reaction to the Champions League draw but also asked if Newcastle fans can expect any more signings before today’s 11pm deadline.
His response was a telling one, featuring this line at the end of the interview from Monaco:
“I think we are pretty much set with what we’ve done.
“We’re excited with the additions we’ve got in this transfer window and, like I said, we feel we’ve got a great squad that can really compete in this competition.”
So, it seems like we’ll go with what we’ve got, ending the summer with five signings in Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento and Yankuba Minteh, taking our total spend to just over £130m. There’d been talk of a late loan move for a centre-back, but it seems that was dependant on the severity of Sven Botman’s ankle injury, which appears to be minor.
Eales’ interview (watch it below), also features his reaction to the UCL draw, where we were given the ‘group of death’ alongside PSG, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan. See what he had to say in full below:
I hadn't seen the entire interview. Seems like no incomings tomorrow.. #NUFC pic.twitter.com/KYm2HDngfl
