Three versatile forwards Bayern Munich can sign this summer

July 24, 2024

Bayern Munich want to make radical changes in the squad this summer after disappointing last season. The Bavarian club is looking to freshen up their attacking options. Bayern have already signed Michael Olise from Crystal Palace this summer, but they remain keen on signing one more attacking player.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Xavi Simons has emerged as one of the top targets for Die Roten. However, PSG are only open to a loan deal this summer. The Bavarian club continues to negotiate with PSG after agreeing personal terms with Simons. They face competition from RB Leipzig and Manchester United for the Dutch attacking midfielder.

Rennes winger Désiré Doué is the other transfer target for Bayern to strengthen the attack. They made a second bid for the French forward on Tuesday. However, PSG are confident about beating Rekordeister for the signature of Doué.

There is a good possibility that Bayern will miss out on Simons and Doué. Let us look at some of the alternatives for Die Roten if they fail to sign their priority attacking targets.

Eberechi Eze
Bayern have already done business with Crystal Palace this summer when they signed Michael Olise. The Bavarian club can further strengthen their attack by signing one of Olise’s former teammates. Eberechi Eze can be a solid signing for Bayern this summer if they want an attacker who can play anywhere behind the striker.

Eze enjoyed a productive season with Palace, scoring 11 goals and grabbing four assists in 27 Premier League appearances. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder is an efficient dribbler and has a very good eye for defense-splitting passes in the final third. Eze is potent from set-pieces and capable of scoring from outside the box.

The English attacking midfielder reportedly has a release clause of £60 million in his contract. It is a steep fee, but Bayern will get a quality player who is entering the peak years of his career.

Kang-in Lee
Bayern are looking to bring down the average age of the squad. Doué and Simons are emerging talents who can play at Bayern for several. Lee Kang-in can be a solid alternative for both players if Die Roten want to sign someone U-25 for the second attacking player for the summer transfer window.

Lee Kang-in can operate in all three positions behind the striker. The 23-year-old South Korean forward had nine goals and assists for Paris Saint-Germain last season across all competitions. He is very good at holding the ball in closed spaces and creating chances for his team.

PSG are looking to invest heavily in the attacking positions this summer after losing Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid. Since the French club may need to raise funds for other signings, Bayern can certainly get Lee Kang-in for a reasonable fee.

Nico Williams
The last name on the list is attracting interest from several top European clubs after a stellar Euro 2024 with Spain. Nico Williams is not exactly an attacking midfielder, but he can certainly work at an exceptional level on both flanks. The 22-year-old winger was a standout performer in Spain’s Euro win as he scored a crucial goal in the final.

Williams is a proper winger who can get fans on the edge of their seats. He can beat his full-back with pace and trickery. The Spaniard is also a great crosser of the ball, making a complete package as a winger. Williams had a sensational season with Athletic Bilbao, contributing with eight goals and 11 assists across all competitions. Considering the qualities Williams has with the ball, he can certainly play as a number ten when needed.

The 22-year-old winger has a release clause of €58 million in his contract at Athletic Bilbao. It is a significant fee for Die Roten, but the winger can certainly be worth the fee in the long run.
