The three candidates Milan could turn to after Iraola setback
AC Milan are looking at alternatives to Andoni Iraola, having not had very positive recent indications from the coach.
Seventy-two hours after Gerry Cardinale ‘s mega-revolution – which saw him fire Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada, Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri – Milan still haven’t filled a single one of the vacant positions.
They are looking for a new CEO, technical director, sporting director and head coach. In contrast to what usually happens, it seems as though Milan are trying to fill the last vacancy first, then building the management around them.
Iraola prefers Palace
Corriere della Sera report this morning that Milan are close to receiving their first rejection. The official and definitive refusal has not yet arrived, but Iraola – the top name on the list to replace Allegri – doesn’t seem convinced.
The pursuit began well before the end of the season as Gerry Cardinale and Ibrahimovic met him on May 15th, two days before Genoa vs. Milan. There have also been contacts and discussions between the parties in the last few hours, but it seems that Palace will win the race.
There are several factors behind Iraola’s hesitation. For example, there are personal reasons , as his family would prefer to stay in England. There are financial ones too, as the English club – which finished 15th in the Premier League last season – can give a higher salary and transfer budget.
The Rossoneri will therefore likely have to evaluate other options. The alternatives include Oliver Glasner, who yesterday said goodbye to Crystal Palace after lifting the Conference League. Xavi – an old friend of Ibrahimovic – could be a name, as could Thiago Motta who knows Serie A well.
