Surprised to see this overreaction as Paul Mitchell leaves Newcastle United

May 28, 2025

Paul Mitchell is leaving his post as Newcastle United Sporting Director.

The news revealed by the club on Tuesday.

I was surprised to see the overreaction of some Newcastle United fans.

According to quite a few fans, the timing of the decision made by the club was all wrong, with fans sensing/suggesting turbulence in the camp ahead of the summer transfer window.

I don’t go along with any of this at all.

On the contrary, I believe that this actually could be the best time possible to part company with Paul Mitchell.

Eddie Howe has always insisted that he has the final say on player transfers and this summer is going to be one of Newcastle United’s most important transfer windows since the takeover in 2021.

I believe that Eddie Howe wants players that are Premier League ready and maybe he and Paul Mitchell didn’t see eye to eye on that.

Some journalists claim that Mitchell’s preference was more of a preference to delve into the European market, looking for relatively youthful gems with the budget always in mind.

I get tired of reading stuff from the bean counters in the media and those amongst our fans.
