SOURCES: CHELSEA AGREE DEAL FOR STRIKER EXIT WITH PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB ON POLE

January 12, 2024

Burnley are now set to win the race to sign Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana with an agreement in place over a loan transfer up to this summer, HITC Football understands.

Sources have confirmed that Burnley and Chelsea have agreed on the terms of a short-term transfer for Fofana. He will spend the rest of this term at Turf Moor after the Blues cut short his spell at Union Berlin. The Ivorian joined the Bundesliga side on a season-long deal in July.

Fofana featured in 17 games with the German capital club but only scored twice and laid on one assist. The 21-year-old also got his only Bundesliga goal in his last of 12 league games in a win over FC Koln. He hit home off the bench after starting in eight of a possible 12 outings.

Burnley are on pole position to sign Chelsea striker Fofana on loan
HITC Football now understands that Burnley are set to win the race to get Fofana on loan for the rest of the term from Chelsea. A number of clubs, including the Clarets’ relegation rivals Sheffield United, were also offered his transfer. While La Liga side Sevilla showed an interest.

Chelsea, however, believe a loan spell at Burnley will suit Fofana best as they wanted to find a club where the striker is likely play to regularly. It is also believed that Clarets boss Vincent Kompany has given the Stamford Bridge natives some assurances over Fofana’s game time.
