‘Showed his quality’: Mauricio Pochettino very impressed by 22-year-old’s display for Chelsea vs Newcastle
Mauricio Pochettino has been left very impressed again by the performance of Nicolas Jackson for Chelsea last night.
He told journalist Ben Jacobs that the striker again took last night as an opportunity to prove his quality in front of goal.
Jackson continued what has been a sensational pre-season campaign up to now as he found the net again to open the scoring against Newcastle United.
Despite the fact the game ended 1-1, there was still plenty to be happy about for the new manager, who remains unbeaten since taking over.
The 22-year-old was signed in truth with very little fanfare, and plenty of doubts over whether he had the capabilities to be the starting striker at Stamford Bridge.
Pochettino delighted with Jackson
This has seen links refuse to go away for the Blues to sign another forward, however the market is beginning to look rather dry in that role.
It may not matter though, as Pochettino has been only further impressed by the contributions of Jackson in last night’s game.
He said: “He showed his quality and his talent. He is good in front of goal. He is very relaxed when he gets chances.
“Jackson arrived from LaLiga and competed against a team like Newcastle in the Champions League.”
Last night saw the Senegal international start up top in front of Christopher Nkunku, as the duo made their first starts together.
Despite things not coming off as perfectly as would have hoped last night, it is now almost certain that both names will be in Pochettino’s team to take on Liverpool on the opening day of the season.
