Shearer questions ‘disappointing’ Newcastle statement as Liverpool circle Alexander Isak
Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks, and club legend Alan Shearer has had his say on the situation
Alan Shearer has called on Eddie Howe to pull out all the stops to deter interest from Liverpool and persuade Alexander Isak to remain at Newcastle United for another season.
The 25 year old was notably absent from the Magpies’ pre-season tour of the Far East on Tuesday, having expressed his wish to consider a move away from St James’ Park this summer.
After winning the Carabao Cup last season, the club remains firm that Isak is not up for grabs, placing a hefty price tag of over £120m on the striker who netted 27 goals in all competitions last season.
However, Newcastle legend Shearer has cautioned his former team about the challenge of retaining the Swedish international this summer, with Liverpool poised to submit a record-breaking British transfer bid.
Discussing Isak’s future with Betfair, Shearer stated: “Eddie Howe has to use all his persuasive powers to do what he can and try to make him stay at least one more year.”
