Sevilla manager says Barcelona’s ‘real problem’ is not Xavi, but Real Madrid

May 27, 2024

Sevilla manager Quique Sanchez Flores shared his thoughts on the challenges faced by Barcelona this season, making it clear that the issues the team encountered were not due to Xavi, their coach.

Instead, he believes the main obstacle for Barcelona has been the intense competition posed by their long-time rivals, Real Madrid.

During what would be his last press conference as the manager of Sevilla, Quique took the time to express his admiration for Xavi.

He described Xavi as a person of great integrity, someone who speaks his mind and is sincere about his feelings and thoughts.

According to him, Xavi’s honesty is one of his standout qualities as he does not shy away from saying what he believes, regardless of the situation.

“I think he is an honest guy who says what he thinks and what he feels, he does not hold anything back,” said the Sevilla manager as quoted by MARCA.

“Barcelona have a big problem and it is not Xavi, it is Real Madrid.

“I say these kinds of things to Xavi, as I do to anyone who meets him in the street. We say it to each other and calmly,” he added.

A perfect season for Real Madrid

Real Madrid are having a perfect season.

In contrast to Barcelona, Real Madrid are having an outstanding season. They finished the league with an impressive 95 points, achieved through 29 victories.

Additionally, Real Madrid set a club record by keeping 22 clean sheets throughout the league season, a testament to their strong defence.

Under the watchful eye of Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid have already secured the league title and the Spanish Super Cup this season. Now, they are preparing for the UEFA Champions League final, where they will face Borussia Dortmund.

If Real Madrid win, it will be their 15th European title, further solidifying their dominance in both domestic and European football.

All signs indicate that Madrid will be the favourites in the upcoming final. A victory would complete another remarkable season for the club, adding yet another chapter to their storied history as champions of both the league and Europe.
