Schlotterbeck remains hesitant on Dortmund extension amid interest from Bayern and Real Madrid

December 5, 2025

Borussia Dortmund remain hopeful of extending Nico Schlotterbeck’s contract, but the centre-back remains hesitant amid interest from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Nico Schlotterbeck has a difficult decision to make: will he remain at Borussia Dortmund and commit to a long-term contract beyond 2027, or decline the club’s offer and pursue a move to one of Europe’s top clubs?

According to Sky Germany, interest from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid is prompting the 26-year-old to carefully consider his future.

A potential move to Bayern largely depends on what happens with Dayot Upamecano and Kim Minjae. Should both centre-backs leave the German champions, Schlotterbeck would become a “top target” for the Bavarians, as per the German media outlet.

At Real Madrid, David Alaba is expected to leave on a free transfer, while Antonio Rüdiger’s future is uncertain as well, potentially creating a spot for Schlotterbeck in the Spanish giants’ defence.

But even if Schlotterbeck ultimately chooses not to extend his contract, Dortmund could still decide to keep him until 2027 and let him leave on a free transfer.

The Black and Yellows have not set a strict deadline, but they hope to receive clarity on Schlotterbeck’s future before the end of January.
