Sam Allardyce will have been impressed by something Leeds star did on Monday night
Leeds Live report in their player ratings piece following Monday night’s play-off semi-final win for the Under-21’s, that Sam Allardyce watched Leeds United beat Aston Villa – and will have been impressed by Georginio Rutter.
Rutter, 21, has endured a disappointing time at Elland Road since completing what could turn out to be a record move to Leeds in January, from Hoffenheim. He has played 12 times, failing to register a goal or an assist for us.
On Monday night, he was drafted into the 21’s play-off semi-final clash against Aston Villa – at Elland Road. Leeds came from behind to win in front of nearly 4000 fans, thanks to goals from Mateo Joseph and Sonny Perkins.
Rutter started the match and lasted 71 minutes before being replaced by Charlie Crew. But Leeds Live handed him an 8/10 rating for his display in the 2-1 win, and say that Allardyce – who was watching – will have been impressed.
Leeds Live reporter William Jackson summarises on Rutter, on Monday night: “Dangerous with his running game throughout and Sam Allardyce, who was in attendance, will have taken note [of Rutter’s performance].”
Allardyce watched Leeds U21’s and will have been impressed by Rutter
For the fourth Premier League match in a row, Rutter was an unused substitute on Saturday as Leeds narrowly lost to Manchester City – in terms of scoreline. But Allardyce needs a spark from somewhere, more so than ever before.
Everton’s shock 5-1 win over Brighton, and Nottingham Forest’s 4-3 victory over Southampton has seen Leeds drop into the bottom three. Next up is Newcastle at Elland Road, who come into the match having lost 2-0 to Arsenal.
Perhaps, Monday’s display and a week’s worth of training will allow Allardyce to take a proper look at Rutter. It might be that he hands the Frenchman a chance this weekend, but it is likely that Patrick Bamford will continue up top.
