Real Madrid step up interest in Gabri Veiga
Real Madrid recently contacted the entourage of Gabri Veiga. And they are ready to offer a player-plus-cash deal to sign the Spanish prospect.
According to a report by Cadena SER, Gabri Veiga and Real Madrid have been in contact over a possible move in the summer transfer window. But the reigning La Liga champions are not ready to trigger his release clause, worth €40 million, to sign him. And they will instead offer €25 million plus a player to land the Spanish prospect.
Gabri Veiga is becoming a highly sought-after figure in the transfer market amid his breakthrough campaign in professional football. The 20-year-old rose through the ranks in the Celta Vigo academy before making his first-team debut in September 2020. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds and is now a regular for the Galician outfit.
The Spanish prospect has enjoyed a superb 2022/23 season thus far, scoring some crucial goals for Celta Vigo. And he has a solid tally of eight goals and three assists in 24 La Liga games. Meanwhile, Veiga’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will have to sign at least one midfielder in the summer transfer window amid the advancing years of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. The two stalwarts have been the pillars of success for Los Blancos in the last decade. But they are in the final phase of their glittering careers. So it behoves Real Madrid to lay down a succession plan for Modric and Kroos.
Jude Bellingham has thus emerged as the top target for Real Madrid heading into the summer transfer window. But the Englishman’s excessive price tag might complicate matters for Los Blancos. In the meantime, they are also working on a deal to sign a second midfielder, with Gabri Veiga popping up on their radar.
The reigning La Liga champions have already contacted the youngster and will offer a long-term deal to him. But the Spanish prospect will not come cheap, with Celta Vigo pointing to his release clause, worth €40 million. That complicates matters, with Real Madrid only offering €25 million and a player to sign the 20-year-old. And the player in question will likely be Rafa Marin, whose future is uncertain.
It is unclear if Celta Vigo will be receptive to a player-plus-cash deal or demand €40 million to part ways with Veiga. But the Spanish midfield prospect is keen on joining Real Madrid and might even push for a summer deal. And amid talks between the player’s entourage and the Merengues, a move might be on the cards.
