Real Madrid prioritising Alphonso Davies move

May 19, 2023

Real Madrid will reportedly prioritise signing Canadian wide man Alphonso Davies from Bundesliga club Bayern Munich this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Alphonso Davies is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues view the Bayern Munich wide man as a priority target for the summer transfer window. But his market value of €70 million means the Bundesliga champions will likely demand an astronomical sum.

Alphonso Davies has evolved into one of the best left-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern Munich from Vancouver Whitecaps. The 22-year-old arrived at the Allianz Arena as a promising young winger. But Hansi Flick moulded him into a left-back, a role he continues to reprise for the Bavarian giants.

Meanwhile, the Canadian international has seen his market value soar to €70 million in the last few years. The youngster has turned out over 150 times for Bayern, chipping in with eight goals and 25 assists. And Davies’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.

Widespread reports in March suggested that Real Madrid might sign Davies in the 2024 summer transfer window. But following a disastrous 2022/23 season that ended with only Copa del Rey, Florentino Perez wants to galvanise the squad. And he is prioritising the summer addition of a left-back.

Davies has thus emerged as a viable target for the upcoming summer transfer window. And recent reports have claimed that the Bayern Munich wide man wants to join Real Madrid if the opportunity presents itself. And an approach from Los Blancos might turn the 22-year-old’s head.

But Bayern Munich will likely put up a fight to retain Davies’s services beyond the summer transfer window. And if push comes to shove, chances are that the Bundesliga champions will demand over €70 million to part ways with the Canadian international. But the Merengues are in a strong-enough position to afford to pay €70 million to sign the youngster.

It will be interesting to see if Perez’s eagerness to bolster the left-back spot compels Real Madrid to table an offer for Davies. For now, the Bayern Munich wide man is a priority target for the 22-year-old wide man.
