Real Madrid calm as veteran midfielder’s injury during Cadiz clash not serious
Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric could not complete the full 90 minutes against Cadiz last night owing to an injury. The veteran Croatian had to make way for Dani Ceballos in the 70th minute after picking some discomfort.
According to AS, Modric experienced mild discomfort in his left hip, and preliminary examinations suggest no significant issues. In fact, the club is calm, considering it appears to be a mere overload rather than a serious problem.
The report adds the midfielder will undergo further tests for clarification before the game against Napoli.
Injury hampers Modric’s plans
Despite the fact that on a club level, Modric’s playing time has reduced significantly this season, the midfielder has remarkably participated in 12 consecutive matches, split between Real Madrid and the Croatian national team.
In fact, he rejoined Real Madrid from international duty with 175 minutes under his tank.
While he was hoping for a month of consistency, especially in the absence of Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Arda Guler, this unexpected fitness issue has now placed all plans on hold.
A historic night for Modric
Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Cadiz marked a special night for the Croatian. On Sunday, when he took the field, he achieved a historic feat by surpassing former Madrid goalkeeper Paco Buyo, playing in a league match for Real Madrid at the age of 38 years and 78 days.
This makes him the second oldest player in the club’s history, only trailing behind the legendary Ferenc Puskas, who accomplished this at 39 years and 36 days.
Everyone at Madrid will now be waiting for Modric’s test results as they hope to not lose another midfielder to an injury.
For now, though, the Merengues are relaxed and believe that the issue is not serious and just an overload.
