PSG make €60m bid for perfect Chelsea target which triggers release clause
Chelsea need a defensive midfielder, that is a priority position for this summer, up there with perhaps only striker in terms of importance to the team.
Signing a player happy to sit at the base of the midfield and break up opposition attacks will help our defence out enormously, and will also allow us to redeploy players like Enzo Fernandez and N’Golo Kante higher up the pitch where they can do more damage.
One of the names high up on our list seems to be Manual Ugarte, the tenacious central midfielder who has really impressed for Sporting in Portugal, who always do a brilliant job scouting the best young talents.
But things aren’t that simple, and with the summer window yet to open, the reliable paper Record in Portugal are claiming that the Ugarte is close to joining PSG. The Parisians have apparently made a €60m bid which meets Sporting’s release clause.
Chelsea could do the same right now if they wanted. But would Ugarte choose chaos in London outside the Champions League with an unknown manager? Things are not entirely dissimilar at PSG, but it still seems like a more cushy situation to walk into.
If things progress quickly with this move, we may have to take a seriously talented player out of the equation in terms of our summer plans.
