PSG made enquiries for €90 million-rated Barcelona Golden Boy this summer
While Paris Saint-Germain are close to sealing Ousmane Dembele’s transfer from Barcelona for €50 million, a report from Mundo Deportivo has emerged, claiming that the Ligue 1 side, through their trusted intermediary, also asked Barcelona if they are willing to sell Gavi.
The Blaugrana, however, are not even contemplating the option because the young midfielder is arguably one of the most valuable players in the squad.
Luis Enrique the driving force behind PSG’s interest
19-year-old Gavi’s first appearance for the Spanish national team came in 2021. The midfielder made his debut in the UEFA Nations League semi-final against Italy and thus became the youngest player to ever represent Spain at senior level.
His debut for the national team happened under the tutelage of Luis Enrique, who happens to be PSG’s current head coach.
The aforementioned publication writes that the former Barça manager is a big fan of the youngster, whose agent, Ivan de la Pena, also happens to share a close relationship with Enrique.
As such, PSG launched an enquiry for Gavi through intermediaries, only to be completely shot down by Barcelona.
The 19-year-old youngster, whose market value stands at €90 million, could not feature in any matches during the pre-season tour of the United States due to back problems.
But it goes without saying that he is simply irreplaceable in the team. He is, in fact, the present and the future of Barcelona.
PSG are set to sign Dembele from Barcelona imminently, and the Frenchman’s departure is going to leave a big mark, especially at a point when the Blaugrana have very little time to react.
Meanwhile, there have also been reports of PSG showing an interest in signing Ansu Fati and now Gavi, too, appears to be on their radars.
At the same time, it is believed that Neymar could return to Barcelona after having reportedly told PSG to let him go, but his arrival would dwindle Barcelona’s finances altogether.
None of the deals are likely to materialise, though, with Barcelona having no interest in letting Gavi go, while Fati has no desire to leave the club. And, as far as Neymar’s return is concerned, finances will not allow for the move to happen.
