PSG Given Edge Over Barcelona in UCL Tie, Says German Football Legend
FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are set to clash in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. Both sides are brimming with confidence as they eye a spot in the semifinals.
Lothar Matthäus, one of the greatest legends of German football, assessed all the quarterfinal matchups of the current Champions League and didn’t hesitate to express his favorites in each of the ties.
Matthäus provided German outlet Bild (h/t Mundo Deportivo) with his pick to advance to the semifinals between PSG and FC Barcelona, offering a series of arguments to support his clear choice.
“I believe PSG is the favorite against Barcelona,” Matthäus noted to Bild. “All of Paris has been dreaming of the title for years now, and Mbappé wants to build a monument there.
“It’s good for the team that they only have one superstar now, unlike before. And Lewandowski isn’t shining at Barça like he did at Bayern. With coach Xavi leaving and unrest within the club, something like this affects the team.”
While the German football legend sees PSG as the favorite, those in Spain are speaking a different tone. El Chiringuito’s Jose Alvarez Haya shared his thoughts on the matchup and noted that the Catalan side has the superior team heading into the first leg at the Parc des Princes next month.
Nonetheless, it will be exciting to see who ends up being correct with their prediction.
