PSG feel Man Utd star has used them for ‘leverage’ to land new blockbuster contract

July 11, 2023

PSG aren’t likely to launch a bid for Marcus Rashford as they feel the Manchester United forward has used their interest as leverage to sign a new contract.

The French club are searching for Kylian Mbappe’s replacement as the 24-year-old looks likely to leave in the near future.

Rashford has been a long-term target for PSG, although the French club seem likely to look elsewhere for Mbappe’s replacement.

“The PSG interest in Marcus Rashford is genuine and dates back to last summer. But the likelihood remains Rashford will sign a new MUFC deal,” Ben Jacobs revealed on Twitter.

“PSG know this and have low confidence of success should they chose to move. They are not actively working on Rashford.

“PSG must first resolve the Kylian Mbappe situation. That’s the priority and their focus for now. Nasser Al-Khelaifi has said before he’d love to sign Rashford, but when PSG explored the deal last summer sources expressed frustration over talks.

“A meeting was held with Rashford’s camp and PSG came out of it feeling games were being played and their interest was being used as leverage.”

Rashford’s current deal at Old Trafford expires next summer, although a new contract agreement is said to be close.

The 25-year-old finished the 2022-23 campaign as Man Utd’s top scorer with 30 goals across all competitions.

Erik ten Hag has got the forward back to his best and he will be keen on finalising a new deal as quickly as possible.

Fabrizio Romano revealed last month that Rashford was close to signing a new contract with the club.

“Manchester United are on the verge of reaching an agreement with Marcus Rashford over new long term deal. He’s set to accept the proposal.

“Negotiations at final stages — Rashford, very happy with Erik ten Hag. Final details to be sorted — here we go soon.”

The 25-year-old is currently one of the top earners at the club and he is bound to receive a salary increase after his sparkling form last season.
