PSG Club Chief Gave Interesting Take on Champions League Loss to Newcastle
Last week, Paris Saint-Germain had a disastrous result against Newcastle United on Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League. The capital club fell 4-1 at St. James’ Park, so it was a reality check for the Ligue 1 giants.
PSG is undergoing a rebuild, so there will be growing pains, and this match against the Magpies was one. Nonetheless, it doesn’t mean their Champions League tournament is going up in flames yet.
As a result, it might explain the reaction of club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to the loss. Le Parisien reports that the PSG boss calmly reacted when DJ Snake questioned him about this weekend’s meeting in Qatar (on the sidelines of the Formula 1 Grand Prix).
“What a game? I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Al-Khelaifi told the musician before later recalling that his club was under reconstruction.
“This summer, the club had seen considerable positive changes, bigger than anyone had imagined. And that building new foundations takes time, determination, patience, and perseverance. We must not overreact.”
The French club is in second place in Group F, and these back-to-back games against AC Milan will determine who has a more straightforward path to advance to the knockout stages. If the Parisians can secure at least four points, it puts them in a good position for the final two matches.
