‘Possibility’ – Roberto De Zerbi on prospect of Deniz Undav loan

January 21, 2023

Rovers are understood to have agreed a financial package with the Seagulls and are awaiting final sign-off from the Premier League club.

There is interest in the 26-year-old from Belgium, where he previously enjoyed a fine return infront of goal, and also elsewhere in the Championship. But Rovers are hoping to get the green light to secure the deal, and will be encouraged by De Zerbi’s comments.

Undav has made 12 appearances this season, including eight substitute appearances in the Premier League.

However, De Zerbi feels Brighton are well stocked in attack, even despite the departure of Leandro Trossard to Arsenal, which would allow Undav to gain experience out on loan.

He told the media: “There is the possibility for him to change team because he’s not playing a lot, but (Deniz) Undav is an important player for us.

“He’s not playing a lot of games because (Evan) Ferguson played well, he scored goals, (Danny) Welbeck is an important player, (Adam) Lallana is a teacher on the pitch for us.”

Undav joined Brighton officially last summer, having been loaned back to sister club Union St Gilloise for the second half of last season after his signature was secured 12 months ago.

He finished the 2022/23 campaign with 26 goals in all competitions and has two goals in the cup competitions for Brighton this season, despite his lack of first-team opportunities.

The German would boost Rovers’ attacking options, with the hope that a deal can be concluded early next week.
