Pep Lijnders next club ‘decided’ ahead of Liverpool exit with Jurgen Klopp
Th Dutchman is aiming to land a job in management once he leaves Liverpool alongside manager Jurgen Klopp and may already have a job lined up.
Pep Lijnders will take charge of Dutch giants Ajax this summer following his exit from Liverpool, a report claims.
The 41-year-old will leave Anfield alongside Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season after 10 years at the club, a stint only broken by his brief spell in charge of Eredivisie outfit NEC Nijmegen in 2018.
The club were in the second tier at the time and Lijnders was dismissed after four months amid his failure to get the club into the promotion play-offs. He returned to his former role at Liverpool a month later and continued to be instrumental in the club’s trophy-laden era under Klopp.
Now HITC claims Lijinders is poised for a return to his homeland and is set to become manager of Ajax to reunite with former Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson. The club are enduring a dire season and were at one point in the Eredivisie relegation zone.
They have now stabilised and have climbed back up to fifth but are looking for new management for next season. Interim boss John van’t Schip is becoming the new technical director, having sacked Maurice Steijn in October.
Lijinders is said to be top of Ajax’s wishlist and Liverpool have apparently given their blessing for him to speak with the Dutch club. The former Porto assistant could yet leave Merseyside with more silverware as Liveprool hunt for a quadruple following Sunday’s Carabao Cup lift.
Explaining his decision to leave this summer earlier this month, Lijinders said: “It’s not easy, leaving such a club.
