Paul Heckingbottom shares what ‘fearless’ new Leeds signing Jayden Bogle is like in training
Jayden Bogle is one of four new signings made by Leeds United this summer and is preparing to help The Whites embark on a second hunt for promotion from The Championship to the Premier League.
Bought for £5m from Sheffield United, Bogle is the first player to wear the Leeds no.2 shirt since Luke Ayling arrived at Elland Road in the summer of 2016. Big shoes to fill then, for the 23-year-old defender.
His two assists in Germany show what Bogle is all about, a real willingness to get forward and contribute in attack. Last season, he scored three Premier League goals against Man City, Man United and Chelsea.
Despite picking up a dead leg against Valencia on Saturday, Bogle is sure to start for Daniel Farke’s side on Saturday when Leeds get their Championship season underway against newly-promoted Portsmouth.
Heckingbottom shares what Leeds star Bogle is like in training
Of course, Bogle worked under Paul Heckingbottom at Sheffield United. The former Leeds manager guided Sheffield United back to the Premier League after replacing Chris Wilder, before his sacking.
Speaking to Leeds Live, Heckingbottom was asked for his verdict on Bogle and explained that he is “fearless” and defends a lot better than he gets credit for. He also shared what Bogle is like in training.
“Not only has Jayden got experience and success in the Championship – he’s fearless in how he plays. He plays on the front foot and takes the game to the opposition, which is what they are going to want to do.
“He trains well, works hard, is a fit boy and his 1 v 1 defending and willingness to defend is probably a lot better than he gets credit for,” Heckingbottom added when discussing right-back Bogle to Leeds Live.
What Bogle has told Leeds fans ahead of Portsmouth clash
It is an interesting match up and a difficult one to know what will happen. Leeds will obviously be deemed favourites to win the game against Pompey, especially given Farke’s Leeds side have home advantage.
The Leeds players will be fully aware that their start last season contributed to missing out on the top two and will be desperate to put that right this term. Pompey will be delighted to be back in the second tier.
Bogle took to Instagram after the 2-1 win over Valencia on Monday and sent a message to Leeds fans, underlining his excitement for Saturday’s clash against Portsmouth in what will be his competitive debut.
