Okoli: A Very Good Job

October 7, 2024

Centre-back Caleb Okoli was delighted to help Leicester City register their first Premier League win of the season.

  • Leicester City were 1-0 winners over AFC Bournemouth at King Power Stadium
  • Facundo Buonanotte hit the only goal of the game in the Premier League contest
  • Defender Caleb Okoli believes it could be a springboard for the Foxes

Facundo Buonanotte’s 16th-minute strike was the difference at King Power Stadium as Steve Cooper’s Foxes rose to 15th in the table with a maiden three points of 2024/25.

Okoli, who is settling into life in the East Midlands with a consistent run in the XI, was particularly pleased with a cleansheet, but also took satisfaction from giving the Blue Army reason for celebration.

“We’re very, very happy for the first win,” the Italian said. “We played very well, so we’re very happy. The cleansheet was very, very good. In our stadium, in front of our fans, it was even better.

Okoli ‘Very Happy’ With First Win
Caleb Okoli speaks after playing a role in Leicester City’s 1-0 win over AFC Bournemouth.

“It’s relief because we needed three points and we know that this will help us for the next games. We were preparing in the week, so we were prepared, and today a cleansheet was very good.”

Okoli admits that Buonanotte’s goal was key for City, giving them something to protect, as opposed to falling behind, as Cooper’s men have done in each home game beforehand.

“We needed that moment,” he added. “We were on the front foot and we’re very happy to have found the first goal in the first half. We did a very good job.

“We know this win needs to give us a platform to keep going and pushing forward and let’s keep doing our thing.”
