Official: Barcelona hit with considerable UEFA fine

July 5, 2025

La Liga giants Barcelona have this week been slapped with a not-inconsiderable fine on the part of European football’s governing body, UEFA.

This comes owing to a breach of Financial Fair Play rules.

It has of course proven to be something of a difficult 24 hours for those in the boardroom at the Spotify Camp Nou.

First, the Blaugrana were, out of the blue, made aware that chief summer transfer target Nico Williams had signed a new long-term contract with Athletic Club.

Then, to rub salt in the wounds, Joan Laporta and co. were made aware of a FFP breach, by UEFA.

As much, as per journalist Fabrizio Romano, has given rise to a €15 million fine for the reigning Spanish champions.

Barcelona are not the only ones sanctioned as part of the latest financial crack down on clubs across Europe, with all of Chelsea, Olympique Lyonnais, Aston Villa and AS Roma affected, too.
