‘Now one of the best’…Pundit says 22-year-old is becoming a huge bonus to Liverpool after Newcastle win

January 3, 2024

Robbie Mustoe believes that Curtis Jones is becoming an increasingly important player for Liverpool, and is now one of the best at pressing in the entire division.

Curtis Jones came back into the starting lineup for the Reds’ clash with Newcastle United on Monday. And he went on to play a starring role for Jurgen Klopp’s men as they moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

The 22-year-old scored Liverpool’s second goal of the evening. Meanwhile, as shown by Whoscored, he completed two key passes, won two tackles and completed both of the dribbles he attempted.

Curtis Jones labelled one of the best pressing players in the Premier League after Liverpool win
Jamie Carragher felt that Jones was fantastic against the Magpies. And it really seemed that the academy graduate made a real statement with his display when you consider that he has largely been in and out of the side during his time in the first-team. He has made 43 starts and 32 substitute appearances in the Premier League during his career.

But speaking on The 2 Robbies podcast, Mustoe suggested that Jones may be about to really turn a corner and make a big impact in Liverpool’s Premier League title push.

“Curtis Jones, at 22 years of age, his physicality, his ability, his decision making is now on the attacking side of things where he gets his goal. He is becoming a bonus in the midfield,” he said.

“And we know he’s changed the midfield and they’ve brought some players in but the continued minutes and development also of Harvey Elliott but more so of Curtis Jones makes Curtis Jones now one of the best pressing players in the league and the stats will back that up.
