Nicolas Jackson not facing retrospective FA action for post-Everton altercation — report

Tempers flared at the end of our 2-0 defeat at Goodison on Sunday, with Chelsea players finally showing a bit of the fight that was lacking in the preceding 90 minutes. Nicolas Jackson appeared to be at the center of the on-pitch altercation from our side, with all the usual pushing and shoving and handbags, but also with images showing him putting his hand on Nathan Patterson’s neck, for example, before getting dragged away from the fray by Chelsea staff.

Obviously, that’s not a good look, and there was some fear of some punishment getting handed down to our striker.

But it looks like Jackson’s actions will not be subject to retrospective review by the Football Association. The match officials apparently already reviewed this at the time, and cleared it, which I guess means no further action is possible even if The FA had wanted to? No idea what the rules are these days, but the general hesitation to re-referee, prioritizing process over clarity and consistency, does fit the general silliness of these FA reviews.

But hey, we shouldn’t complain. We’ve got bigger issues to deal with anyway — one of which is the fact that we are even having this discussion.

It’s one thing for a team to be young, but this group seems very immature indeed. Our disciplinary problems have been highlighted repeatedly (though we finally managed a clean game this weekend … until the final whistle that is), but issues with focus, consistency, mentality, and execution remain glaring. Obviously, we can’t expect kids to grow up overnight but you know, it would be nice if they did.
