Newcastle United dealt fresh injury scare as Anthony Gordon put on standby for Ipswich clash

Fabian Schar troubled by new injury as Newcastle United splutter away to Villa
Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar came off because of injury at Villa Park last night despite enduring a nightmare in the second city against Unai Emery’s side.
The former Swiss international had three moments to forget after his deflection after 33 seconds beat Nick Pope before he was fortunate just to be booked in a tangle with Ollie Watkins and his evening ended with a poor clearance which gifted Villa another goal. But assistant boss Jason Tindall has suggested that the ex-Hoffenheim man was protected when coming off for the final eight minutes.
Tindall explained: “Fabi was feeling his hamstring in the game, so he felt it was the wise move to bring him off and to try and protect him, to make sure that hopefully he’s okay for the remaining games.” Newcastle are hopeful of having an extra layer of defensive cover next weekend against the Tractor Boys with Sven Botman edging closer to fitness after a long stretch out with a knee issue.
