Nayef Aguerd wants ‘more and more’ from West Ham United teammate Lucas Paqueta after ‘tough’ introduction
West Ham ace Nayef Aguerd has backed teammate Lucas Paqueta to do “more and more” next season.
The attacker has endured a tricky start to life in England following his high-profile move from Lyon last summer.
But the Brazilian is beginning to show signs of his quality, with Paqueta now scoring in three successive matches.
“I am very happy for Lucas,” said Aguerd. “Like me, it is his first year in the Premier League, and it is a tough competition. It takes time to adapt to this league due to the intensity.
“The goal is to stay in the Premier League and next year he will do more and more.”
Aguerd is also proving to be a top signing after his initial injury struggles, with the pair evidently just needing some time to adapt to the new league.
But Paqueta is dominating the headlines lately, primarily thanks to his three goals from his last three matches, with the midfielder scoring against Gent, Bournemouth and Liverpool.
Hammers fans have had to be patient with Paqueta, with many starting to believe that he was another failed summer signing from the club, much like struggling striker Gianluca Scamacca.
But the Brazilian is shining in various aspects, with his defensive displays just as impressive as his attacking efforts.
After a slow start, the busy Paqueta is quickly endearing himself to the West Ham faithful, and he could be a real handful next season, provided of course the club remain in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old will quickly be on his way out of the London Stadium should the Hammers go down, but that looks unlikely, with the club currently sitting 14th in the table.
