Milan Pursuit of Ligue 1 Midfielder Handed Huge Boost
Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana is among the profiles carefully examined by the Milan leadership ahead of the summer. And the player has handed the Rossoneri a transfer boost by revealing an existing agreement with his current club to let him leave in the coming months.
Fofana has one year left to run on his current contract at Monaco. However, the parties have made a crucial decision for the Frenchman’s future, which could culminate with his move away from the Stade Louis II in the upcoming transfer window. Meanwhile, Milan are on red alert.
“I still have one year left on my contract. I’ve talked about my future with the executives. It’s no secret,” the Milan target said, as quoted by Calciomercato. “We have an agreement to take this next step. If that doesn’t happen, I’ll stay at Monaco for the rest of the season.
“I hope everyone wins this summer, but at the moment, I don’t think about it.“
Milan have identified Fofana as a necessary reinforcement to add muscle and energy to their apathetic midfield. Tijjani Reijdners did well in his maiden season at San Siro.
However, Ismael Bennacer’s injury woes and Yacine Adli’s inconsistency have forced the club to consider other options in the summer. And the 25-year-old Monaco star ticks all the boxes for the type of player Milan are keen to recruit.
With his contract expiring in 12 months, Monaco would agree to sell him for around €25 million. But there’s a catch. Milan would have to best none other than Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign the Frenchman.
