Marcelo reacts as Casemiro clinches Champions League place for Manchester United
Manchester United star Casemiro led the way as Manchester United booked a place in next season’s Champions League.
Casemiro knew when he left Real Madrid that he would be sacrificing Champions League football for a year.
He hoped it would just be for one season, and he has been proven right, after leading Manchester United to a guaranteed top four finish.
It was somewhat appropriate that Casemiro scored the opener as Manchester United saw off a lacklustre Chelsea to win the game 4-1.
Casemiro secured Champions League place
Manchester United followed up Casemiro’s headed opener with goals from Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes, and Marcus Rashford.
United are in third place, and deserve it. Erik ten Hag’s side have been consistent throughout the season and have not been affected by the odd freak defeat.
Casemiro was happy after United’s win, celebrating via Instagram, toasting Champions League qualification.
He is a five-times winner of the trophy with Real Madrid and now gets a crack with Manchester United.
There were several responses to Casemiro’s message. From teammates Jadon Sancho and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, to Brazil teammate and Tottenham rival Richarlison, who also congratulated him.
Casemiro’s former Real Madrid colleague Marcelo also reached out to show his admiration.
Manchester United players can’t celebrate too much, yet. Erik ten Hag wouldn’t dream of letting them.
There is still third place to secure, with a win over Fulham needed at the weekend, before the FA Cup final against City at Wembley a week later.
