Man Utd push to beat Liverpool – Under £50.9m would get signing done

June 13, 2025

Manchester United have already started working towards reinforcing the squad for the upcoming season. The Red Devils need to get their recruitments spot on to ensure that they do not have yet another disappointing campaign.

Ruben Amorim came in halfway through the 2024/25 season, replacing Erik ten Hag and it made things even more difficult for the squad.

The Portuguese tactician completely changed the system at Old Trafford which did not suit the players at his disposal.

Man Utd have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves. The talented attacker is coming off a brilliant campaign with the English club and he is moving to Ruben Amorim’s side to a system that could bring the best out of him.

Now, as per Portugal outlet O Jogo [image attached at end], Man Utd are pushing to sign talented Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio amid interest from Liverpool.

The center-back has been a standout for the Portuguese club for quite a few seasons now.

Inacio, at just 23, has a wealth of experience playing at the highest level. The Portuguese international has already won 16 caps for the national team and played 42 games this season across all competitions, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists.

Inacio has a contract at Sporting CP until 2027, and he is said to have a release clause of around £50.9m. The report mentions that the defender might be allowed to leave for slightly lesser, although the Portuguese club are unlikely to make it easy during negotiations.

Apart from Man Utd and Liverpool, even Newcastle United are interested in the player. In many ways, it is quite surprising that no European club has made a move for him in previous transfer windows and he could finally make a move this summer.

While signing a new centre-back isn’t necessarily a priority for Man Utd, if he is available at the right price, signing Inacio would be a very good solution for Ruben Amorim.

He is a player he has worked with in the past. Let’s wait and see how this transfer saga plays out.
