Man Utd news: Ruud van Nistelrooy makes Ruben Amorim plea as Roy Keane slams ‘boring’ draw
Manchester United drew 1-1 against Chelsea on Sunday after goals from Bruno Fernandes and Moises Caicedo, with interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy taking charge of his first Premier League game
Manchester United are set to enter a new era later this month when Ruben Amorim becomes their new head coach.
Amorim will replace Erik ten Hag after he was sacked last Monday following a 2-1 defeat to West Ham. Ruud van Nistelrooy is currently in interim charge and he oversaw his first Premier League game on Sunday as United drew 1-1 with Chelsea.
Bruno Fernandes gave United the lead from the penalty spot, before Moises Caiced netted an equaliser for Chelsea. With all that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at some of the latest news from Old Trafford.
Keane slams “boring” display
Former United captain Roy Keane slammed their performance against Chelsea as “boring” and highlighted the scale of the task facing incoming boss Amorim.
“He should’ve signed a longer contract,” Keane told Sky Sports. “It’s a long way back for this team. Look a new manager will come in and you hope he’ll get more out of this group but this is an average United team – all the stats back it up.
“We keep repeating ourselves, but you don’t know what you’ll get with them. Yes they could’ve won the game but there’s also a good chance they could lose it. Not good. Even when you’re watching. I hate saying it but this United team are almost a bit boring. The lack of conviction with all their chances.”
Van Nistelrooy’s plea
Interim boss Van Nistelrooy has reiterated his desire to remain at Old Trafford once Amorim officially joins on November 11.
The exact makeup of Amorim’s coaching staff is yet to be determined and Van Nistelrooy wants to be a part of the team. When asked about his future, Van Nistelrooy told Premier League Productions : “Before I came to United I was looking to manage, no doubt about that.
“When United came in with this opportunity, for me, it was a fantastic opportunity. I wanted to be here and I put that [management ambitions] aside. For me, that was a deliberate decision to come here and help out. I just want to stay and do the same thing and, for me, that’s my focus for the moment.”
Martinez’s lucky escape
Lisandro Martinez was shown a yellow card for a foul on Cole Palmer late in the game and Blues boss Enzo Maresca was furious that he was not sent off.
