Man Utd ‘hold transfer meeting’ with £44m target Raphael Varane and Paul Scholes will love

March 21, 2023

Manchester United have reportedly launched a pursuit of AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi to steal a march on rival suitors ahead of the summer transfer window. The Frenchman’s Old Trafford arrival would leave Raphael Varane and Paul Scholes satisfied with Erik ten Hag’s recruitment.

According to Foot Mercato, United are strongly interested in completing a deal for Disasi this summer.

The 25-year-old’s representatives apparently met with United two weeks ago to discuss a potential switch.

With his Monaco contract not set to expire until 2025, he is said to be valued at £44million amid an impressive season in his homeland.

After last summer, Disasi revealed that it was his dream to the Premier League over a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

He told RMC Sport: “I like England, it’s a very exciting championship, we’ll say it’s my favourite championship. And between Paris and the Premier League, the place where I can progress the most.”

Disasi made three appearances during Les Bleus’ run to the final in Qatar and could be Varane’s natural successor after he retired from international duty earlier this year.

The Gonesse-born ace has flourished into one of Ligue 1’s star centre-backs at Monaco since joining from Stade Reims in 2020.

He has been widely praised for his aerial dominance and ability to consistently win duels, a trait that would bode well in the Premier League.

Disasi’s versatility may also attract Ten Hag, given he can also feature as a right-back when needed, a position the Dutchman reportedly wants to bolster this summer.

The news of United eyeing a potential right-back will be music to Scholes’ ears after the Red Devils icon called for a signing to help bring the best out of Jadon Sancho.
